Abstract
Purpose: We wanted to evaluate the results of autogenous bone graft without internal fixation for the medial tibial bone defect in total knee arthroplasty.

Materials and Methods: We reviewed the records of 42 cases who underwent total knee arthroplasty using autogenous bone graft without internal fixation for medial tibial bone defect between March 1995 and March 2003 and who were followed for more than five years after surgery. We reviewed the results using Knee society score system and observed the radiographic changes.

Results: The mean knee score by KSS system was 47.8 preoperatively and was 89.3 at last. The mean tibiofemoral angle was varus 15.3¢ªpreoperatively and valgus 5.4¢ªat last. There was no evidence of the displacement of grafted bone, osteolysis and loosening of the implants.

Conclusion: We believed total knee arthroplasty using autogenous bone graft is a simple and effective treatment in the elderly with bone defect of the proximal medial tibia, especially in view of the minimal bone resection, the stability of the tibial component, and the reconstruction of tibial bone defects.
